DescriptionMission Statement: 
The Central Okanagan Emergency Shelter Society values the basic human right to freedom from physical, emotional and sexual abuse and provides: sanctuary, advocacy, support and self development opportunities for women and children during and after crisis. 
 
Programs include: 
 
  • Transition House: 24-hr emergency accommodation for women and children (to a maximum of 20, depending on family composition) seeking a safe haven away from relationship abuse; 
     
  • 2nd Stage House: A home for women without children who require a longer period of support following their stay at the Shelter; 
     
  • Supportive Women's Programs: Individual and Group Counseling Sessions, Life Skills Programs, Mothering after Abuse Group; 
     
  • Children Who Witness Abuse Program (CWWA): Group and individual counseling for children who have experienced abuse in the family; 
     
  • INSIDE/OUT Program: Violence prevention program for young people that operates in schools and community settings; 
     
  • Volunteer Program; 
     
  • Community Awareness and Events: Shelter presence at community events, presentations on relationship abuse/shelter services and other awareness campaigns; 
     
  • Kelowna Women's Shelter Thrift Store is located at 527 Lawrence Avenue. Hours: Monday to Saturday 10 am -4:30 pm; call 250.762.8561.

  • New socks and undergarments

    Christmas is Coming! 
    The Women's Shelter is always planning ahead for annual parties for women and children. We will be in need of gifts for women and children, food and volunteers before and during the holidays in order to make it a special time for our clients.
