Description & Services
DescriptionThe Interior Health Children’s Assessment Network (IHCAN), formerly IHAAN, provides multi-disciplinary assessment services for children with complex developmental conditions. Children living in the Interior Health Service Area who have been referred and waitlisted for Sunny Hill in Vancouver have now been redirected to IHCAN. Children being referred must have significant impairment in a number of domains of functioning, including development and learning, mental health, adaptive and social skills, and/or biomarkers such as prenatal substance exposure. There are three assessment streams:

• Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
• Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
• Complex Child and Youth (CCY)

Referrals:
In order to ensure the most appropriate children are referred to IHCAN, a referral from a pediatrician or child psychiatrist is preferred. In exceptional circumstances where a community has no access to specialists, a family practice physician may make a referral to IHCAN. We appreciate your patience as we attempt to provide assessments in a timely manner.
Please note that this new referral route is specific to the ASD, FASD and CCY assessment-only services which are provided through Interior Health under this new integrated initiative. This does not replace or change other types of referrals to SunnyHill or BC Children’s Hospital, or for children’s intervention and support services that you are accustomed to making to local child development centres or other agencies.
