Description & Services

Service Details Peer Support Group: 
- Weekly groups facilitated by volunteer peer supporters with lived experience, where peers can share their experiences with mental health problems, discuss strategies for wellness, and provide mutual support in their journey towards recovery 
- Mondays 1:00 pm- 3:00 via zoom. Please contact CMHA Kelowna for the zoom join information.  
- Wednesdays 4:00 pm- 6:00 pm via zoom. Please contact CMHA Kelowna for the zoom join information.  
 
Peer Support one-to-one  
- One-on-one peer support consists of approximately 10 meetings (1-2 hours) out in the community or over the phone with a peer supporter that matched to peers seeking support. Sessions are peer driven and meet you where you are at! Peer supporters are there to listen, provide support and understanding and assist with goal-setting, wellness planning, and recovery options.  
- Peer supporters are not counselors or therapists but can plan a valuable role in the recovery process 
 
Discovery College  
Discovery College is for anyone and everyone who wants to gain the confidence to face life’s challenges. Our courses are created to support your well-being through learning. Each course is developed and delivered in collaboration with people who have knowledge and personal experience in each topic area. This means, at Discovery College you will experience an empowering learning environment where genuine people share knowledge and practical tools. discoverycollegekelowna.com  
 
Peer Support Services aims to break isolation and provide support from people who understand what it’s like to live with mental health issues. Our programs: 
 
Connect people with lived experience in a structured therapeutic environment 
Provides support on the journey towards recovery 
Offers both group and one-to-one mentorship opportunities 
Hosts weekly activity groups at Kelowna General Hospital’s Psychiatric unit 
CMHA Kelowna recruits and trains new peer supporters approximately once per year.
Hours Office Hours: Mon-Fri: 9:00am - 4:00pm (program hours vary)
Eligibility Ages: 19 year(s) and up 
 
- A referral from a mental health professional, local agency or family doctor is required to access these services 
- Have the form completed by the professional most familiar with your mental health history and return it to our office 
-Individuals can self-refer if necessary
